7 Things Every Kinkster Should Have on Their Nightstand by Momentum Intimacy

Hello #MomentumLovers!

It's understandable that when you begin to explore kink, you might not be the most prepared kinkster in the world. After all, you're still learning!

However, once kink becomes a regular part of your sex life, you may want to approach it in a more prepared and organized way. To that end, here are some suggestions for objects that (almost) every kinkster would benefit from keeping near their bed (or wherever else they like to play). How many of these things are on your nightstand already?

1. Lube

A great lubricant can make or break a sex session. Whether you pick up a cushiony hybrid lube for anal play, an organic aloe lubricant for vaginal fingering, a silicone-based lube for handjobs, or any other kind, some added slickness can make all the difference.

Lube also plays a role in certain kink acts – it can add authenticity to a medical examination roleplay, for example, or render something like urethral sounding easier to achieve. Everyone should have a lube they love on their nightstand!

2. Safety shears

If you dabble in bondage at all, whether casually (e.g. tying your partner's wrists together with a necktie) or more elaborately (e.g. creating a head-to-toe body harness out of bondage rope), safety shears are a must-have.

You never know when a particular tie might start to feel uncomfortable or painful – not to mention, there are other potential emergencies to contend with, like a candle knocking over and starting a fire, or an in-law popping by for a surprise visit. Whenever you need to get out of bondage fast, you'll be glad you stashed some safety shears by the bed!

3. Informational kink resources

You don't have to have a whole library of kink books – unless you want to, of course! – but it can be helpful to have 2 or 3 books nearby that you like to refer to, for those times when you're stuck for ideas, having trouble communicating your desires in your own words, or just need more information on what you're trying to do.

Some recommendations: SM 101 by Jay Wiseman, the Toybag Guide series of books, and 101 Kinky Things Even You Can Do by yours truly, Kate Sloan!

4. A glass of water

Staying hydrated during kink is hugely important. You might be sweating, squirting, crying, or all of the above, so you can lose a lot of fluids getting your kink on. Some people prefer to re-hydrate once their scene is over, as part of aftercare – and you can and should do that too – but hydrating during a scene is important as well.

Water is also good to have nearby if your voice starts getting scratchy because of all that moaning, dirty talk, etc. Keep that beautiful voice running smoothly!

5. Something that plays music

It could be an iPhone and a Bluetooth speaker, a vintage turntable, or a full-on stereo system – but you should be able to play music somehow during your kink scenes.

Music accomplishes more than you might think during kink. It can help you stay in rhythm during a spanking, set a sexy and relaxing vibe for the session, prevent your mind from wandering by keeping you grounded, make your sex sounds seem less jarring or embarrassing, and infuse some upbeat fun into a scene, just to name a few possibilities. Unless you strongly prefer silence, it's nice to have a music source nearby when you're getting kinky!

6. Condoms

Even if you don't plan on having sex in the conventional sense, there are many other potential usages for condoms. You can slip them over almost any sex toy before using it to make cleanup easier, for example. If there's an object you want to use as a sex toy that isn't technically safe for insertion, like a vegetable or a household object, putting a condom over it beforehand can make it much safer.

Some people put a condom on their penis when doing kink, even if they don't plan on having sex, because they may ejaculate at some point during the scene and don't want to make a huge mess. However you choose to use them, condoms can be super helpful at crucial moments!

7. A vibrator

Aside from the many pleasurable uses of a vibrator during sex, it's also fantastic for ridding your body of any boner-killing tension and pain before a scene, or giving your partner a soothing body massage after you play together. Ahh, bliss!
